Dont Miss! Water in the Ears

Post by Penmick214 on Tue Sep 20, 2011 11:03 am

My dog and I were at Pet Awareness Day in Walled Lake, MI Sunday and he had his first taste of dock diving! We're definitely interested in persuing the sport, but I'm worried that he got water in his ears a couple times he submerged. What is the best thing to put in their ears post-swim to prevent infection?

Hi Rachel and welcome to the very addictive sport of dock jumping. One of our two labs is prone to ear infections, and we frequently end up having to treat her with a solution that my vet suggested we make. I usually do this after every event because I really hate it when she gets a stinky ear infection. Most all of our dogs will get some water in their ears during splashes, but the vast majority of them don't get ear infections, with the shaking etc, that they di after getting wet.

What we have done lately is use any one of number of good ear cleansers that can be found at most good pet supply stores. If you wan the recipe for the solution that we make from our vet, send us a PM and I will send you the instructions.
