Dont Miss! Few questions from a newbie

Post by mlongworth on Sun Aug 31, 2008 11:22 pm

I'm new to the site, wish I had found it sooner and could have been in Van Wert this weekend. I'm hoping you'll have the Cincinnati event again next year that wuld be a really close event for us. What height do the Ultimate Vertical competitions start at? Just wanted to say HI!

Actually, in order for the height to count towards titles, the lowest qualifying start height is 4'8". Sweet!

Occasionally, Milt will let people start lower, if there is time (a few new teams have started at 4'6", for example). But it won't count towards their title and the possibility of a lower competition start height is going to depend on the individual event and how many dogs are participating.

Is there ever any time to practice uv? (like sometimes there's open dock, etc.) I never stay long enough to watch it. I've never tried it and I'm not sure if I want to enter and waste the money. Just wondering. Thanks!!!

As long as the rig is set up, it's usually fine. Sweet! I also have a UV practice pole, as do a handful of other teams. It's usually best to introduce them to it using those, because you can easily put the bumper only a short distance out (most dogs start anywhere from 1-5 ft out and 0-3 ft up). You can't get the standard rig quite that close/low. So, if you're ever plan on attending an event and want to give UV a try, post and ask if someone minds bringing a practice pole for you to borrow. Sweet!
