Try as I might I just cannot remember lab fur. Does she start the warm season with much of an undercoat? She isn't blowing a lot of guard hairs is she?

Ours all have very dense undercoats. Multiply the shedding by six. My dust bunnies now have heavy fur coats... I'm waiting for them to evolve to the point that they gain intelligence. Sweet! They've already grown little legs and feet. I know this because they scurry away from the vacuum and brooms. Next they'll morph and develop arms and little evil hands. Mad Dog Then watch out- we'll have to count everyone at the end and beginning of each day to make sure those nasty things dwelling under the furniture do not take to snatching the unaware! Scream!!!

Bob,

The blabs shed a lot, especially after events and swimming. drown We have a furminator, and we love it. Rootbeer Cheers! It really helps... but you can overdo it and go too far. What you talkin' abo It can cause a sparce haircoat and I have seen people who have accidentally injured the skin by furminating too much. No way, Man!

We do it maybe once a week to once every other week. Angela, we too have dust bunnies that have become almost as big as the Hooeys! Gets hard to tell which is which! think

The day after the house is cleaned the hairbunnies wave2 are back and growing. hit head We just try to keep them small enought to see over. Ultimate Air Elation
My experience with Goldens and Labs is that they shed 24/7 Mad Dog - sometimes more, some times less, BUT ALWAYS.

We try to brush, it helps some, but doesn't prevent hair everywhere or seem to cut down on the volume of hair. We brush a Gloden and they just come in the house and shake and hair goes flying Scream!!!

We have covers for the sofas that we take off when we have company and put back on as soon as they leave, keeps the sofas hair free at least.

The Furminator is a good tool, but it "cards" the coat, which is something that should only be done a few times per season, as Alissa mentioned, you can over do it.

For Indy, I use an undercoat rake that I bought at Walmart for $5, once or twice about this time of year, that gets almost all of the loose undercoat out, then I run a slicker brush over of the top to get what's left. Other than that, I just use a "Zoom Groom" it's a very soft rubber curry brush when I think about it (which isn't too often), I mosly use it because he likes it and it's probably good for his skin. If you're bathing as often as once a week, make sure you're not using shampoo every time, plain water will do just fine. Labs should not be shampooed much, they're supposed to have an oily coat, and their skin is especially sensitive to over bathing. A lot of people bathe their lab because they think they're stinky ... but labs get stinky when they're over bathed and their skin is all out of whack. The less you bathe them, the less they stink. They are truely low maintenance dogs! A Round of Applause! Indy only gets a bath when he swims in the river or rolls in mud, and even then, it's just plain water. If his allergies are really flared up, I use his Epi-Soothe shampoo for itching relief. He also has fish oil in his diet, it's good for lots of things, including joints, allergies and healthy skin Sweet!

The shedding really isn't that bad for us, maybe my house keeping expectations aren't as high as some whistle but when you have a yellow lab and long haired orange and white cats, it really helps to own as much beige stuff as possible Snickering

We use the FurBuster and that works really well without taking out too much hair. We do it about once a week. Bailey used to shed a ton. But by switching his diet and adding Salmon oil pills, it really cut down on the shedding.

On Rocky we use a Furminator or even the shedding blade. He sheds like crazy when it's hot, he's excited, he swims, or the sun comes up. We furminate him about once every two weeks, and use the shedding blade in between. The main thing to understand with labs is that they shed ALL THE TIME! You will never find the end to the hair, it just doesn't exist. You will soon learn to accept hair in your food, on your clothes and everywhere in your house. Giving her baths too often can lead to more shedding also. We only give Rocky a proper bath a few times a year. The rest is just swimming. Some soaps really affect their skin and cause the hair ro fall out faster. I really wouldn't bath her so often unless she rolls in something dead. You will also get used to the stinky puppy smell.

We thought the labs were bad, until we brought Chase home! Wow! Kel, I'm sure you can attest to the amount of hair a German Shepherd "releases" on a daily basis. And then when he blows his coat - yikes! I try to control it (if that's possible!) by brushing him out with the soft rubber kong zoom groom. And he doesn't mind being vaccuumed ( Ultimate Air Elation ) with the hose and hand held attachment at all either, so that helps every once in awhile!

well i give the baths because of the swimming in the pond and what ive done recenty is just give her a bath with the water hose only to get the pond smell off because i was thinking i was giving to many bathes.since the fuminator, it seems to have really helped so maybe if i try that every coupleof months it will do the trick along with my brushing. Thanks for the advice.
